Tesla Unveils CyberCab Robotaxi
Tesla has officially announced the launch of its highly anticipated robotaxi, named CyberCab. The prototype of this autonomous vehicle was unveiled by Tesla CEO Elon Musk at Warner Brothers Studio in California. Equipped with advanced camera and computer technology, the CyberCab is set to navigate the streets autonomously. Production of the vehicle is expected to commence by 2026, with an estimated price of around $30,000 for buyers.
At the unveiling event, Tesla enthusiasts eagerly awaited the arrival of the much-anticipated robotaxi. The CyberCab made a dramatic entrance, welcoming Musk with its butterfly-like wings.
The CyberCab will operate on roads using state-of-the-art camera and computer technologies, incorporating a laser-based sensor known as LiDAR. Notably, the robotaxi features only two seats and does not include a steering wheel or pedals.
Elon Musk asserted that this new technology makes the robotaxi 10 to 20 times safer and more cost-effective than human-driven vehicles. The operational cost is projected to be just 20 cents per mile, and the vehicle will charge inductively, eliminating the need for plugs.
Musk highlighted the advantages of autonomous driving, stating, "You can get into the car and fall asleep, and when you arrive at your destination, you will wake up. This will save lives and prevent accidents. I believe this vehicle is ten times safer than human drivers. While a bus consumes a dollar's worth of fuel per mile, our car will cost only 20 cents. We hope to offer this car for slightly less than $30,000."
Passengers will also have the option to hail the autonomous CyberCab for rides. In addition to the CyberCab, Musk introduced another autonomous electric vehicle called RoboVan, which can accommodate up to 20 passengers. The event also showcased Tesla's Optimus humanoid robot.
The CyberCab is slated to begin production in 2026, and while an official price has yet to be announced, it is anticipated that Tesla's robotaxi will be available for slightly less than $30,000.
